Have a lovely photo of this lady taken in Plano, Illinois. Found in papers of relative in Sandwich, Illinois. Would like to see it returned to her family.

The lady in the photo is much older than the Zella you mentioned. The photo seems taken in late 1800's of an adult lady. Sorry it is not a connection.

Hi..I am working on the history of the people in Little Rock Twp, Illinois (that's just east of Sandwich, with Plano as its main community). And the Giffords are cousins to me too.
I have just over 200 Giffords in my data base at the moment, some of whom I know lots about, and some not very much.

I found two possibilities for your Ella Gifford:
**If she might be Etta Laura (Martindale) Gifford she was born 5 Apr 1840 and died 6 Apr 1913. Her husband was Benjamin J. Gifford, a man with lots of success in business, etc., and I assume they were well-to-do. Ben would be a 3rd cousin to me, and the son of Freeman and Lucy.
**Freeman and Lucy also had a daughter who might be a possibility: Lillian Adelle Gifford. (I don't know if she went by her middle name or not, but it could be.) She married George Geringer. She was born 24 Jan 1849 in Little Rock Twp and died 17 Oct 1891 in Chicago.

Do you have any information about your picture that would indicate a connection? Freeman lived on the first road east of Sandwich (Sandy Bluff) so I'm sure that they traded in Sandwich a part of the time. I had grandparents (on the other side)who lived within 2 miles south, just off Sandy Bluff, who traded in Sandwich and Plano. I would expect the same for Freeman and family.

Can I offer any other information that would help you pin down who "Ella" might be?
