Hi, Rhonda. No one is working on the Millaways so it is nice to have an answer. I have worked on this for years and have traced them back to the 1700's, but I have reached a dead end and am still trying to find more information. It is almost as if the Millaways just appeared. I have found other Millaways in Deleware and Virginia and North Carolina where the Millaways from Georgetown came. If you want more information use my e-mail address.

According to my records, John Millaway was born abt. 1760-1770. He lived in Guilford Co., NC. He married Elesebeth Griffin abt. 1793 in Guilford Co., NC. Some of his children, (he had at least 2 sons and a daughter) were John Thomas Millaway and James Millaway. James was b. abt. 1800-1810. John T. Millaway married Polly Wyrick June 19, 1829. Polly Wyrick's father was Martin Wyrick, jr. b. 8 Dec. 1777 NC and died 15 Jan. 1841. John T. and Polly were in TN by 1841 because John Millaway bought 160 acres for 12 cents an acre in the Ocoee Purchase. He and Polly had Betsy Ann, Martin, John C., Mary C., Rebecca Jane, James M. and Eliza. John T. died before 1860 and we do not know where he is buried. My wife is through Martha who was a daughter of John C. and Jane Legg Millaway. Martha married John A. Shiflett and they had one daughter Maudie who married my wife's grandfather, John Luther Hooper.

John, you may be right, but I did a search on the name and located the name in England. John is a popular name in the Millaway family, as you know. I sometimes wonder if John in Guilford Co., NC might be an immigrant. He refers to NC as a province.
