I am looking for any information on Elder W. Thomas Broadway(born September 28,1852in Davie County N.C.died January 14,1916 in Union County N.C.)
Sometime around 1911 Elder W. Thomas Broadway ,Primitive Baptist Preacher from Davie County N.C. came to Union County N.C. as a guest of Elder Thomas M. Broome. Twice maried and widowed,He was impressed with Bessie Maye ,23 year old daughter of Elder and Mrs. Broome. On May 16,1911, the 59 year old preacher married his 3rd wife,Bessie Maye Broome
(born 1888 in Union County)
I would especially like to find out about Mr. Broadway's frist 2 wifes and and any children by them. Mr. Broadway is my wifes Great Grandfather.

Thanks Randy Godfrey

Elder W. T. Broadway was my husband's grandfather and Bessie Mae Broom was his grandmother. My husband Maurice is the son of Elder W. T. Broadway's son Thomas Edgar Broadway. We still belong to Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Union County, NC. where Elder Broadway pastored for a number of years. Elder W. T. Broadway is buried in our Church Cemetery. I have very little information about Elder Broadway's family before he arrived in Union County. I do know that his father was Andrew A. Broadway and that Andrew served in the Confederate Army and he enlisted on 8-8-1862. I have in my possession a copy of Elder Broadway's call to the ministry.
I'd love to share information with you.

The will of Sophia Broadway appears in Davie Co. will book II:207, written 26 Mar 1897 and probated 14 Apr 1897. According to Jo White Linn's book of Davie Co. will abstracts, it names son William Thomas Broadway as executor and also mentions son Burgis Broadway "now living in Miss." I haven't seen the complete will.

Presumably this is your W. Thomas Broadway. Can you tell me more about his parents? What was Sophia's maiden name, who was his father, and where did they live before coming to Davie County? (They aren't there in the 1850-1880 census records).

Thank you! That is very helpful. My father- in-law, Thomas Broadway only has John Broadway listed as grandfather and just "Sophia" listed for grandmother in his family Bible. Both are listed from Davie county. I'm still trying to find a last name, but I'm stumped right now. I'm going under the assumption that our Broadway's are descended from Nicolas
Broadaway (Broadoway) and Catherine Horsley that came from England and settled in Maryland. Thank you for your help. I'll be glad to share info later, if I'm able to trace more.

There is also a Margaret L Headrick Broadway (13 Jan 1856 - 13 Jan 1911) Wife of Elder W.T.Broadway buried in the Pine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Churchland, Davidson County, NC. Also buried at Pine is A.A. Broadway 29 Oct 1832 - 17 Jan 1903. Is this your family? I would like to know more about these people.
