Hi!
My grandmother was Cesa Lynch Johnson.
Her father was John Wesley Lynch and
her mother was Sarah Ann Mills. I think John was born in Upshire County. Is this any relation?

We have the following: That John Lynch established a Ferry in Central
Virginia near Roanoke on the James R. in the blue Ridge foothills. We think
he was father to Charles. I see on this board that someone thinks
Charles was married to Sarah Clark (don't know this).

JOHN (early 1740s?)either an uncle or father to CHARLES Lynch. Encyclopedia Brittanica
says he authored the Lynch Law about the middle of the 1700s. Charles was the father of ADIN
Lynch ("many of the Lynches of Canada and the USA trace themselves to Charles as he was the
father of 32 children and had been married 4 times, and died at 100 years of age"). We have only that
Adin was born 1770 in Brunswick Co. VA and 17 April 1800 married SALLY JONES
who was born in 1774 in Brunswick Co. 9 Mar 1813 he was marrying POLLY DOBBINS also born 1774 in
Brunswick Co. VA. Adin died 1839 - 1840.
A son of Adin and Sally Jones was Robertson H.J. Lynch born in
1810. Married to Tabitha_______ who was born in 1813. These people were
ancestors of my husband. Robertson HJ Lynch
had six children. Nancy Jones Lynch, Thomas W. Lynch
Mary J. Lynch, Margarit Lynch, James H. Lynch
and George M. Lynch. Nancy married Harvey Warren Modrall 1829.
If anyone knows that some of these persons and
dates are incorrect, please let us know.

I have found more info on John Lynch. His father was William Charles Lynch born 1705 in Galway, Ireland and stole away on a ship to America. He married Sarah Clark in 1733 in Virginia, daughter of Christopher Clark and Penelope Bolling. She was born in Virginia in 1716 and died in 1792 in Virginia. they had the following children: Penelope Flournay, 1734;illiam Clark, 1736 to 1796; Sarah, 1738 to 1773; John 1741 to Oct. 31, 1820; Christopher, 1742 to 1782 and Edward, 1744 to 1765 (never married). John Lynch married 15 year old Mary Bowles, a Cherokee Indain and had the following children:Matilda, 1769-1830; Zalinda,1762-1839; Edward Bowles,1784-1862; Sarah,1777-1810;Christopher, 1782-1818; Mary,1784-1860; Charles Clark, 1789-1826;William B. 1789-1826; Anselm-1793-1814 and Hannah B., 1796-1817. Hope this helps someone!

Anyone interested in John Lynch and Lynchburg, Va might like to read the following books.

1/"Biographical Genealogies of the Virginia Adams Families" by Thomas Tunstall Adams
2/"Sketches of Lynchburg" By The Oldest Inhabitant
3/"Lynchburg and Its Neighbors" by Rosa Faulkner Yancy

All three books are out of print but are available on film at any L.D.S. Family History Center. All three contain information on the Lynch surname from Lynchburg and are well worth reading.

This John Lynch's family history can be found in: "Our Quaker Friends of Ye Olden Time" by J.P.Bell, Lynchburg, VA 1905. This
Lynch family descended from a ___ Lynch who came from NI and was an indentured servant to a Mr. Clark in Virginia. He married Sarah Clark, the daughter, who was a Quakeress. Quaker records contain many bits
of information about this Lynch family.
Appendix Pg. 258-259 gives a descendency.
Previous pages allow you to trace births, deaths and marriages to find your own line.
My husband is descended from the Lynch Terrell families. ALso check William Wade Hinshaw's multi-volume "Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy", Richmond, IN:
Friends Book and Supply House. Both books should be available in any good county historical library. Good luck!

Surnames: Lynch
Do you know if anyone has ever determined who his parents or siblings were? Did he come to VA by himself or perhaps with brothers?
