My great great granfather was Alec ( or Alex) Cofer. He married Harriet Poole ( she was Cherokee Indian). They lived in Dayton, Tn. Both were born in 1800's. I would love to learn more about them, as they are the oldest ancestors I know of.

Dot,
I think your talking about one of my ancesters. Actually I think you know my family. Leonard Cofer is my father and Robert (Bob) Cofer was his father. I was not aware of Alex's wife's name nor of her origin. That is very intresting bit of news. Do you have any information on her? I know you were looking but what you have is more than I. I do have some information about Banister but not very much.

Kathy, I don't know that much but here's the way my mother told me. Alex married Harriet Poole ( Cherokee Indian). They lived in Dayton, Tn. That's where I was born, but have lived in Chattanooga most of my life. Mother said Alex used to go to the "saloons" in Dayton, and Harriet( she was a little woman) would go in make him leave. They had a daughter ( Elizabeth), who was my great grandmother. I remember her, but never saw Alex or Harriet. Elizabeth married a dutchman named Jim Potter. They had Maudie( my maternal grandmother). I don't know any Cofers. Do you know any of these people ? Do you live in Dayton? Tell me all you can. You can e-mail me at Dotsings@aol.com Thanks, Dot

To Mel Grand,
I have not come across the name Alexander Cofer in my very limited search. I find that your gf. brother named Clay is interesting since my grandfather's middle name is Clay. My great-grandfather was Zacharia Cofer b. 1864, his wife was Eliza Jane Crow b. 1868.
