I saw your post from 2000. Just wondered if you have any further info on the Hamilton Shoats? I have an aunt who remembers going to see an uncle who was VERY OLD and VERY SCARY (her words, not mine) when she was a very small child. She says now that she thinks he was very ill at the time and was under some sort of tent, my guess is an oxygen tent. I would guess his name may have been Hamilton or Humphrey as she referred to him and Uncle Humpy. Since he was from Robertson Co. TN, I thought it a possibility, he may be part of my Shoat's/Choat's/Choate's or as in one census record, I found them as Cheek. Strange I know, but I am sure that is them. Don't have it handy at this time, but hopefully I can find it if need be. Looking forward to hearing from you and thank you in advance for anything you might be able to share with me.

Jason,

I realize that this is an old post, abut I thought I would take a chance and see if you are still here. I saw that you mentioned a Hamilton Shoat. And he was born in Robertson Co. TN. While I don't know anything about him, I am curious. My Choate/ Shoat family is from Sumner and Robertson Cos. My gggrandfather was John Shoat/Choate and was born abt 1844 married Martha Martin and my ggrandfather was Samuel Alexander Choate married to Catherine Silcox and then there was my grandmother Taunzell Marie Choate born 1909 on reservation in Ok and married 3 times. First to Emmitt Stancil and they had a daughter Hellen and she says she remembners going to see and Uncle they called Hamp. He was ill at the time and she was frighten of him because he was so ol and so sick. She was 5 at the time so that would have bee 1935. I seem to be gettin nowhere with my search. I hope you are still on here and hope to hear from you soon. Thanks in advance.
