Leonard Pluta Chicago area

I am beginning my search to find out more about my mom's family.

My grandfather was Leonard Pluta and I believe that he was from Horodiszcze, Poland (but I think the city now has a different name). His father was Thomas and his mother was Anna Zielenkiewicz. Leonard left his family and came to the US around 1913 and settled in Chicago. The only name he ever mentioned was that of his younger brother, Chester.

Some years after WW2 ended, Leonard's son, who was also named Chester Pluta, received a letter from Canada written by a Priest named Chester Pluta. He had come across my uncle's name and address on a contribution my uncle made to a mission serving in Canada. Father Chester wrote my uncle for information because he wondered if they were related since Pluta is not a common surname. My uncle never followed up, and the letter eventually was lost.

Do the names of Thomas, Leonard or Chester Pluta figure into anyone's family? How about Anna Zielenkiewicz? How about the town of Horodiszcze?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Janet --

I am also seeking relatives of Chester Casimir Pluta who would have lived in Illinois. He was a bombadier in the 388th Bomb Group during WWII and was killed 7/31/44 over Munich Germany. I have papers regarding his death and would like to pass them on to his relatives.

The ages are a bit different, but my husband's grandfather was Chester Stanley Pluta. He lived in Cook County, IL and had a number of other siblings in the area. He was born 12JAN1913 and died 19AUG1994. I have his parents listed as John Pluta and Konstancia Wroblewska, but the family doesn't have a lot of info. I'd be interested to find out if they are the same people or are in the same family line.
Anyone who has any more info on this Pluta family settling in the Chicago and Chicago suburbs areas, please contact me. I have additional information as well.

It appears that you and my husband are cousins. :) His Grandfather, Chester Pluta, had a brother named Vincenty (aka Vincent) who lived in Chicago and died in 1935 at the age of 30 of pneumonia. This Vincent Pluta married Helen Swiecikowski in Chicago in 1927 and they had two sons, Harry and Donald Paul, both of whom are deceased. As far as I know, Harry married Alberta Mary Jedda and they had three children: Dennis, Perry and Michael. I believe that Donald married Phyllis Adrienne Florence Furman in Chicago in 1952 and they had two children: Paula and Nataly. If this is your family, feel free to e-mail me, as I have additional information on Vincent's brothers and sisters and his parents that I'd be glad to pass on to you.

Hi everyone. My ggrandmother was Anna Matuch, nee Pluta, b. 1890 in Poland. She came to the US in 1911, I think, and settled in the Chicago area. Possible sibling is Josef? She married Ignacy Matuch in 1914 and they had three children, John, Anne and Mary (Mae). Ignacy died in 1955 and Anna in 1979, in Chicago.

Any relation to any other Chicago-area Plutas?.
