My GGGFather Moses A. Coleman was born a slave in 1846.
I would like to know who his mother, father, sisters and bothers were. He was born in Athens, Ala. with some slave plantation ties to Va. and NC. The slave owners' name was Daniel Coleman who had other brothers and sisters who were also slave holders as well...out of Ala., Va. and NC., too!!!

As you can see there are many many Coleman Slaves.
Just about every Coleman Reseacher has some small
amount of info on slaves.
It would help a lot if we had some idea what state or area
that they might have been from!

I am a descendent of a Coleman slave. Lizzie, Jos (Joseph), adeline etc. There are a lot of Coleman's from Caroline County, Va. My GGGgrandfather was Thornton Coleman, his wife name was Ellen Banks Coleman. Coleman's were members of Salem Baptist Church until the existence of Jerusalem Baptist Church. I'm not sure I have shared any light on your research. I too am looking to close loop holes in my family research. I have gone back to the 1800's, but need confirmation on some information.

Surnames: Coleman, Barringer
Has anyone found a connection from VA to a slave Roxanna Coleman in Cabarras County, NC who bore a child to Confederate General Rufus Barringer. Their son Warren Coleman,1849-1904, became a well-known business man and leader in NC.
I have to wonder if this Union had some bearing on the General's becoming a Republican (the party favorable to Blacks at the time)after the war. My family connection to Rufus Barringer and thus to Warren Coleman is very distant, but I have an interest in what happened to any family Coleman might have had.
