Does anyone know whatever happened to Russ Minshew who was a weatherman on WSB-TV in Atlanta, GA, about 15 or so years ago? I know he left the station but I never heard from him again. Is he dead? Thanks. June in GA

April 23,1993 Tampa Tribune

"Russ Minshew, the veteran broadcaster who returned to his hometown of Pensacola and began hosting a talk show "Pensacola Speaks" in 1986, died Tuesday of brain cancer in Perdido Key."

Is this the same guy?

I would say it probably is. He was a weatherman on WSB-TV in Atlanta for awhile and left years ago. I didn't know where he was from or where he went. Thanks so much. June Anderson

I had heard that, too. I liked him a lot. He was always talking about birds he had seen. I think he even showed pictures of ones he had photographed. He was obviously a birdwatcher. I wonder if someone just made that up about him or if it was true. Either way, it's the end of a career. It's a shame. Thanks for your reply.

Actually he was busted in a sting operation in Columbus, GA for the solicitation of an underage male prostitute around 1985. His was found not guilty at trial in 1986 because his attorney successfully convinced a jury he had be entrapped by the Columbus, GA police. While the argument was good enough for the jury, WSB-TV was not impressed and "accepted his resignation" after he was acquitted. Those in Atlanta never heard from him again.

I thought I had heard something like that at the time it happened. It didn't seem to fit with his personality...he seemed to be a birdwatcher and so proud of pictures he took that he would show them a lot during his segments...not that a person can't be a pedofile and a birdwatcher, too, but it just didn't seem to fit. I'm really sorry all that happened...and now some of the people say he's dead. How sad.

As a reply to all of you that seem interested in knowing about my brother Russ...he died from complications of brain cancer in Pensacola. Russ was survived by his wife and daughter, and they are both doing well. As for the charges...the person that made the accusation admitted that it was a setup. Russ was found not guilty, but the damage was done to his career in Atlanta.

If you are really his brother, I truly appreciate your response. I really liked Russ and it was infinitely hard for me to believe someone who was that compassionate for birds and was such a birdwatcher could be that low. If he was set up, that person, or those people, will have to stand before God one day and give an account for their lives, unless they have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior and asked and been forgiven of their sins. Once again, thank you so much. God bless you and yours. June in GA
