Looking for info on the Sylvester Vanderhoof family that lived in Madison, New Jersey around 1900. Wifes (second wife not even sure they were married) Emma Mae Baldwin. I am one of the last grandchildren and it seems all aunts and uncles are now deceased. Any info would be appreciated.

Hi JoAnne! It's interesting.....I found your name in my mother's genealogy papers this morning.....on an obituary for Gertrude Cameron. It lists you as Gertrude's daughter and lists my father, James Heyer, as a brother. My aunts never told us about your mother....I wish I had been given a chance to know her.

On Arthur Hyer's (Heyer) marriage certificate to Florence Elizabeth Hughes (Heyer, Reeves), there were two witnesses with the surname Vanderhoof......I haven't been able to find the certificate, but when I do, I will be able to give you their names.

Florence's mother's (your great grandmother) last name was Pettit and she was from New York.

Hope to hear from you soon! :)
Patti Heyer

Patti, So glad to hear from a long lost relative. When my Mother was 75 years old and ill with cancer Jim Heyer contacted her and explained about the second marriage and the and my Mother's new family. It was very exciting for her to meet her brother and his wife Ann. Ann did send me quite a lot of info on the Heyer family. It's ok by me to e-mail me directly I would love to keep in touch. I am living in San Jose, California

I am interested in the name Sylvester Vanderhoof because I have a Sylvester in the 1850 Census - Knox County Indiana. Sylvester was age 16 in 1860 = birthyear abt 1844. My gt gt gt grandfather was Cornelius Vanderhoff/Vanderhoof and his family came to Edwards County Ill in 1816 or 1817. Looking for his parents, believe they are Cornelius (Sr) & or Philip Cornelius & Jerusha Morrison. The Sylvester in the above mentioned 1850 census may be named after an Uncle or some male family member? Do you know any Vanderhoofs that have disaappeared from the NJ area? Or the NY area? Other childrens's names are Caroline, Harvey, Louis & Anna. Also found a Sylvester marrying Eliza Ann Davenport 27 March 1872 in Morris County NJ. Any tidbit of in would greatly be appreciated. This is my brickwall.

I am the G Daugh of Sylvester Vanderhoof b 1851-1859 and his #2 wife Emma Baldwin..They had 12 children and lived in Madison,New Jersey. Sylvester died in 1934 and Emma in 1961. Sylvester and #1 Elizabeth Davenport lived in Rockaway or Dover and (I think)they had 2 children. A note of interest, Sylvester is listed on the 1900 New Jersey census twice..once with Elizabeth in Dover and once with Emma in New Jersey...
