sorry I cannot help re your 3rd great grandmother, but could you give me any info on how you know that Mario Lanza's real name was Alfredo Cocozza? Also do you know where he was born? My great grandfather came from Vallegrande in Italy and was called Domenico Cocozza, he came to England in about 1895 to Worthing, Sussex. There has always been a legend in our family that we were related to Mario Lanza. Any info would be appreciated.

I am not sure where I first read about Mario Lanza's last name but you can look up about any biography on him and it will tell his real name. I believe he was born in Philadelphia. You can find his family in the census records also.

Hello

My Great Grandmother was Plautilla Lanza (born 20 may 1862) from Tocco da Casauria. She married Eustachio Galli. Plautilla's parents were Domenico Lanza and Giuseppa Smarrelli(born Abt 1838), both from Tocco. Any relation to yours?
Mario Lanza's mum was from Tocco as well. Apparently, my grandmother was related to him as well.

I don't recognize those names. I see your last name is Pettinella. My great grandmother was Cesidia Pettinella and was married to Romualdo Smarrelli. Her parents were Francesco Petinella and Guiditta De Lutiis. All from Toco.

I don’t recognize the Pettinella names that you have mentioned.
My grandfather was Paolo Pettinella (1903-1979) he married Annunziata Galli (1905-1980). Paolo’s parents were Filippo Pettinella and Annunziata Pietrosante.
All from Tocco as well.

You have described my great grandfather and great grandmother. Until I visited Italy in 2007 , I did not realize that my great granparents were from Tocco. My grandfather ( Venanzio Galli , the son of Eustachio and his first wife ) came to USA and lived in Philadelphia . I knew he was either from the same town or related in some way to Mario Lanza ( who was from Philadelphia ) My grandfather was apparently friendly with Mario's father but until now I never understood the connection or the possible relationship. Thank you

I was told that Mario Lanza was also a cousin of ours. We are from the Francesco and Ninfa Ciuppa Lanza's from Cleveland, Ohio. I understand that Mario chose his Mother's maiden name of Lanza. Our ancesters are from Italy around Messina, I think. Do you have any information?

I just might be able to shed a little light here for you, but it's not me but my daughter, she is married to the great nephew (something like that) and he has a book "Mario Lanza Singing to the Gods". It was written by his daughter Ellis Alonza Bregman. (I think that's the correct spelling)
My daughter is starting a family tree on her husband, would you mind sending me what you have so I can show it to her? I know she'll respond to you.

Correction Mario Lanza the great singer is my son-in-laws uncle not great uncle which puts him and Michael Anthony Lanza brother's.
