Does the surname "Marr" have anything to do with Maher/Meagher etc. Are they linked? Is O'Meagher or however it's spelt the Irish spelling for Marr? Please help!

Hi Samuel,
I have just started researching my family name, I have discovered that my great grandfather came over to England in the 1800's from Ireland and his name was spelt Maher, but somewhere along the line it changed to Marr, which I know to be the scottish spelling.

Peter,

Thanks for your message. If you come across any interesting facts about the Marr/Maher family I'd love to hear them. Thanks very much.

Yours
Samuel Marr

Yes, or at least in my case. Marr is a variation of the Irish Meagher, Mahar, Maher, Mahr spellings. In my case the spelling has been changed 3 times: Meagher, Mahar, and now Marr. There is also a English/Scottish Marr line in which the spelling remains the same however they are no relation to the Meagher's of Co. Tipperary Ireland.
