1860 census index question

Are there any plans to re-start the 1860 census indexing - any idea on timeframe?

(p.s. - hoping to see Minnesota indexed on the 1870 soon).

Thx

Tom,

We are nearly finished with the 1870 every name US census index and Minnesota should be posted before the end of the year. We intend to begin posting an every name 1860 census index as soon as the 1870 is completed (probably in early to mid January).

It would be nice if you would identify yourself in your posts, Mr. Hanna, so that others will know if you are a legitimate Ancestry.com employee, as your posts imply.

Yes, I wonder too. The post shows a hotmail address, rather than an "official" one associated with Ancestry.com

Sorry for the confusion. My Ancestry account still has my hotmail account listed. Yes, I'm an "official" Ancestry employee. I am the product manager for the Census Collection and will do my best to monitor this board regularly and provide answers whenever possible. Thanks.

Josh,

Yesterday and today when I research a name I get the site where the individual is located but when I click on the name the only info I get is name, county, page number, etc. There is no site to click on that will take you to the actual page. Numerous times this has happened on various names. Also yesterday I was in the 1820 census for Georgia and where you have a site to click on to get a copy of the blank form instead of having 1820 it had 1810. You have lots of problems with your census database. Hoping they can be corrected soon. Thank you.

Jeanette,

The 1860 index that is currently posted on Ancestry is not linked to images, so you would not expect to find anything to link through to. In January we will begin to replace the current index (from AIS--Accelerated Indexing Systems) with our own 1860 every name index that will be linked to images. As for the 1820 census form mix up, I have passed that along internally and we should have that fixed soon. Thanks.

Josh

As we pay good $'s for this database or shall I say many databases we are renting from 'Ancestry'...JUST pray tell me why don't they work when they did at one time?

You view it perhaps once or many times....then there it is just a few facts nothing more.

Does Ancestry really feel people are going to keep putting up with this?
