I have just found this discussion, having had the same problem - I am also using Chrome, so the issue is not fixed! I imagine this site uses IE specific code rather than Chrome being at fault.

many attempts were made to upload large and small GEDCOM files from Windows XP using Chrome and Windows Vista using Chrome. After reading this forum, I switched to IE and it uploaded instantly with no problems.

I have also noted other issues with Chrome on the Ancestry.co.uk website. Sometimes when adding data to a person, I am switched to a different tree, when I try and select the correct tree from the drop-down list, it never works in Chrome but it works in IE. When I try to click the arrows to the right of the page in the family tree view, it often does not work in Chrome, I have not tested this in IE.
