Ancestry on-line Family Tree - Can you merge people????????

I myself don't like the new ancestry on-line Family Tree!
But, Just like the other one you can't seem to merge people.
If you can merge people than can someone tell me how?
As I have found new info and the line connects to another line and added the name and I need to merge the two.
Can someone brings this to the big shots at ancestry!

You can choose the option "add a person from your tree" and this should to it.

I'm not understanding how "adding a person" can work to mege people? I have a number of duplicate people, and I need a way to mege them without retyping the whole tree.

Here is the way I use that feature. Suppose you have your gg grandfather posted along with your g grandfather. Also you have another person with the same name posted. You suddenly realize that the person with the same name is your g grandfather's brother, a son of your gg grandfather. Instead of making a duplicate by adding your gg grandfather's name as this persons father, you select "add a person from your tree". That keeps you from making duplicates. It might be necessary to delete one of the duplicates and then use the above feature. It may take a little time but is better then retyping the whole tree.

mbmjlm,

Thanks, I'll have to try that.

So will this work for my "problem" of having double connections in families where brothers and sisters of two families intermarry so they end up showing up twice in a tree? Will this "add a person" feature take care of that so I don't have to reenter someone? If not, it sure would be nice to have a feature that would recognize when a person is put in that is already in your tree. I have seen this on another site where there is a prompt asking "if this is the same person" and do you want to enter the person at another point linking them to another family.

Hi
Your problem is exactly my problem and in Virginia and East Tennessee it happens A LOT ! At least it does in my family. And often I don't realize it until I've gotten pretty far along past both people on the tree.

Did you ever come up with a way to merge them as the same person and allow all info for them to be "global" within the tree?

I am not sure if this idea will work with your tree, but there is a Relationships tab connected to the "edit profile" option. I used that to fix a problem I had when I connected the wrong child to the wrong father. You might play around with that and see if it would work. That problem happened often in families in earlier years. I just found one case in my tree where a wife died early and her husband's cousin died early too so the first wife married her first husband's cousin and had more childen.
