Can't view full tree

Ok, so I'm new to this site, so maybe I don't know all the functions yet, but does anyone else have a probelm with viewing their full family tree? Is it possible and I just don't know how? It's really annoying when trying to research connections. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm trying to do the same thing.

My father is 90 and doesn't use a computer and is 3,500 miles away. I'm trying to do a print out using print screen so I can mail him the tree and have him hand write in the blanks. I also can't figure out how to do a full view!

How do you do this?!?!?!

Thanks!

This is a limited display program intended mainly for viewing on a computer monitor.

Even on a fair-sized monitor (not your 56" TV screen) you can't legibly read the basics on more than 6 generations at a time. Five or six generations of pedigree is about all you can expect to be able to read on a given piece of paper.

The display is not intended to show all spouses of an individual, spousal parents, connections between marrying cousins or descendants of X and Y who marry descendants of P and Q.

Web sites using TNG (The Next Generation) software have a much better box chart format that prints out better and you can save parts in PDF format that is easier to share with others.

I don't really understand what you mean by a 'full view" but you can download the free genealogy program called PAF from the www.familysearch.org website, download your Ancestry tree as a gedcom and import it into PAF. From there you can print all different kinds of charts and reports for your full tree. PAF Companion works with your PAF database and gives you additional options for trees and reports, also free and including color. Very intuitive and easy for beginners. With Ancestry.com you can order wall charts for a fee but with PAF you can print out charts on 8x10 sheets of paper and tape them together into a wall chart. I have several all over my house to show & teach my grandchildren abou their family and I'm making one for my husband's oldest brother's anniversary.

The Prt Scr function is not the best way to do it! This is a hangover-from previous generations of the operating system and should only be used as a last resort.

Is your tree entirely Ancestry based? Do you have any genealogy software (such as Family Tree Maker)? Most packages allow you to a do a *full* printout of your tree in a variety of different layouts. There are a few 'freebies' around also.

Unfortunately, DIY printouts of large family trees are rarely the best option. You will simply get lots of A4 sheets of paper which you then need to stick together to make a readable tree! But they are cheap.

There are several companies who will make a professional printout of your tree on one big sheet, but at a price!!! Take a look via Google.

I usering whatever software this websites interface is.

As I said, I don't need professional, I need something printed to write all over but I need it to include everyone, not just main parents and 1 sibling.

Any idea?

Alex,
I don't know if this will help you or not but if you go into the Pedigree view, there is a print icon on the upper right side. If you click on that, then printer-friendly, you can print a 5 generation pedigree chart of your tree. If you have a large tree you would still need to print other sections seperately.

Hope that helps.
Jo

Thanks. I tried that but for example, it will only show my parents and I, not my siblings also. Atleast not unless I'm the focus person but then that would take forever. Maybe that is the only way though...

You could download your ged to Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project. You should be able to set it up to view up to 10 generations in the pedigree and descendency charts. Copy the views you want and paste to a doc. If you don't want others to view your tree you can then remove the gedcom.
