I just noticed that there is no way to view the index to the rest of a census page.

I have someone in 1871 who appears to be sharing an address with another family family member but they are separate households. I am going to have to do a search for the second person just so I can add her to my tree, the past I would have just brought up the index to the whole page and selected her.

I can't see that Martin? When I view a census page the index for every person on that page appears in the scrolling "Ancestry Image" section beneath the census page image. Have you clicked on the chevron icon at the bottom of the screen to make it visible? Otherwise, check that you have the most up-to-date version of the browser software (preferably Firefox 3.5.2).

I always use IE for Ancestry (or at least most of the time).

You can see them on the dual page with image and transcription but you save one of those to your tree. You need the original style display to do that.

You can get to that but you have to go back and search for them.

Save record to someone in my tree
Save record to my shoebox

I am seeing it in 1861

Neighbors: View others on page

But it is not there in the 1871 census

Also OK in 1891

So looks as if they might just have screwed up 1871

When using Ancestry via FTM it used to be necessary to use the 'View others on page' link to select the record for another member of the household as just clicking on a name didn't update the record that FTM would use for a web merge. This is no longer the case with the 1871 census which now works with FTM as one would hope it would.

I suspect the 'View others on page' has been removed because they think they've fixed a bug and no longer need it, forgetting what it was there for in the first place and that not everyone uses FTM either. Either that or they think the new multi-pane display for the census image replaces it. They'd be wrong as very few links on that new style page actually work properly.

It only seems to have happened on 1871 so probably a mistake by Ancestry.

I can't remember whether I reported it to them, perhaps do so again.
