I have reason to believe that Bittercreek Newcomb (George), was related to us. There has been stories past down the family. If any one could help with his line, that would be great. He hung out with John Pierce and James, and a few other gangs.
Thank you,

I have a book, Encyclopedia of Western Gunfighters with several entries about your Newcomb, gunfights with the Dalton Gang, how he got his nickname, how he died, etc.

I would love to hear how he got his name.
I do know how he died- shot in his bed with his boots on and with his friend Peirce.
Thanks, Jannita

From the book:George Newcomb once worked for John Slaughter and was subsequently called Slaughter's Kid, and his frequent warbling of "I'm a wild wolf from Bitter Creek / And its my night to howl" earned him the sobriquet "Bitter Creek".

Hi,
Thanks for the info-very intersting.
I was wondering- does it say anything about him being half Indian? I have seen a picture of him and he looked fair skin. I have been told he was half Indian-mothers side. Or anything about his parents?? Have to ask that one?
Thank you so much, Jannita

Jannita, That book didn't say anything about his parents, or his heritage. It did say that his "woman" was Rose Dunn, and she was called "The Rose of Cimarron Valley".
I am in Okla. Where are you? Do you have access to the books about "Oklahombres"?

Thanks for the info.
I live in Minnesota, to far away.
I also have read that info on his girlfriend-Rose. I do not think they were ever married,
I think she was a widow or still married to some one else.
Thanks again,
Jannita

Hi, I have a small amount of information that was just uncovered by a distant relative in Kansas. This is hand written by the mother of his wife. Mr. George Newcomb and Miss May Wesson were married on June 27, 1881. May died giving birth to her baby boy on June 14, 1883 and the baby also died. After this, George had a rough time and he then joined the Dalton Gang. He was shot while he slept at the farm of the Dunn Brothers in Ok. on May 02, 1895. I hope this has helped you. If you have any info you would like to exchange, I would appreciate it.
Thanks, Karen

Hi Jannita,

My sources have George BS Newcombs girlfriend as, Sarah Conley (McCloskey) who was married to Deputy Sheriff John Conley who was killed in a Cushing, OK gunfight. It seems like I remember that Rose Dunn was an alias of someone. He and his partner Charlie Pierce were staying at the John & Bee Dunns, "Rock Fort" after a train robbery. The Dunn's assassinated both he and his partner for the reward money. The Dunn's at one time were also outlaws. Good luck!!!!
