Hi, I have transfered my public tree to http://indyormsby.tribalpages.com/ but less the data personal data of living individuals but have not transfered photos as yet. Plus I have add some resent updates to the public tree & not updated the original as yet. So the public tree is the most uptodate but less photos.

I have not run across any data on a marraige to Mary Jane Taylor, but will research it later. If I find any more info on Jeff Hardin I will pass it along.

Please feel free to email me at my yahoo email account, charocfl.

Notes for John Carlos DeArmas:
Funeral services were held Wednesday for John Carlos DeArmas, Sr., of Plaquemines Parish who died at his daughter's residence in New Orleans at the age of 93. Mr. DeArmas was a native of Plaquemines, where he resided for many years. He served at one time as a Deputy Sheriff, and for many years he was a Notary Public in the Parish. Mr. DeArmas was one of the two surviving members of the White League the, organization which fought against carpetbaggers in Louisiana. Only Jefferson D. Hardin Sr., remains of this famous citizens' organization. These two men participated in the battle of September 4th, 1874, on the river front at Canal Street, when the Negro metropolitan police were over thrown. The DeArmas family has been in Louisiana since 1764 He is survived by two sons John Jr., of Buras, engineer for Plaquemines Parish; Eugene Police Juror, representing the fifth ward, residening at Venice; two daughters, Mrs Lillian Bauman and Mrs Sophia Jermunson of New Orleans; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. His wife, the former George Durabb, died in 1918. Funeral services were held from Lamana-Panno-Fallo Funeral Home and with a requiem mass at St. Aiphonsus church in New Orleans. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in that city. {published September 28, 1946}

Pursuant to the authority thus granted the Governor of Louisiana proceeded to appoint the first Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans. In the month of September, 1896, Hugh McCloskey, a well known business man, and W. A. Kernaghan, a prominent real estate dealer, both of New Orleans, were appointed. They were the first commissioners. The board formally began its duties on September 3, 1896, but did not take charge of the wharf system until the expiration of the Louisiana Construction & Improvement Company's lease in May, 1901. Branch M. King was the third member of the board. Wm. H. Byrnes was appointed to the board in 1899. The death of Mr. King in 1905 created a vacancy which was filled by the appointment of Jeff D. Hardin. Colonel Byrnes died in 1910 and was succeeded by T. J. Kelly. After serving sixteen years as president of the board Mr. McCloskey resigned in 1911, and was succeeded by W. A. Kernaghan. Adolf Dumser was appointed a member in 1901.

Clairemont in Kent County was a favorite hangout for rustlers, and Standifer gave it special attention. A very rough town during those years, Clairemont was said to average a killing a week. That was an exaggeration, perhaps, but much violence did take place there. A feud over ownership of a single cow resulted in the deaths of nine men; a district judge was gunned down in a Clairemont hotel; and Jeff Hardin, brother of the infamous John Wesley Hardin, was shot and killed there.

Norm, you are quite welcome for the information. I did a bit more checking and found the following article of his death. . . DM

Clairemont, Tex. - Oct. p.- Last night about 10 o'clock Jeff Hardin, a brother of the late John Wesley Hardin, was shot and killed here. He was at his place of business, when it seems, he and John Snowden got into a dispute about an account. Angry words passed between them, but other parties coming into the room, the matter was dropped. The crowd soon started out and Snowden with them. Hardin called him back and in a short time the shooting was heard. Parties entered the building and found Hardin lying at the end of the counter in a dying condition. He did not speak after he fell. Three shots took effect, one passing through the heart and passing out under the shoulder blade. The right leg was shattered and a ball passed through the left leg,
It is not known that any one saw the shooting. Hardin's pistol was lying behind the counter. Half an hour after the occurance Snowden surrendered and he is now in the custody of the Sheriff. Snowden waived examining trial and his bond was fixed at $5,000, which he readily gave.

Thanks CharO!

I appreciate the info and links.

I believe the Jeff D. Hardin who purchased the Plantation in MS was in TN in 1920 and could be related but is not the same.

The LA Hardin is also a different line.

I am fortunate to have contact with Morris "Moe" Hardin locally, who has a treasure trove of documentation concerning the Hardins. He goes into detail that is missing in other books and Author Leon Metz said "I wish I had known about you (Moe)and visited before I wrote my book on John Wesley Hardin"!

Of course, some of Moe's information is family tradition which has been passed down to him from family and some of it seems to be very accurate while some info is close, and some just isn't true. An example is: Jeff was a range detective working with Pink Higgins for the Spur Ranch. I cannot find any support for this.

I do know that Pink was a range Detective but find no documention that Jeff was. It appears he was moving some of his horse herd and stopped at Ennis Creek to water them. It was a favorite watering and Jeff probably believed Mr. Stevenson had no right to water his horses there which led to Stevenson's demise. An inquest was required by the DA of Scurry Co. and Jeff knew he would bite the bullet unless he could show it was self defense. He tried to get John Snowden to lie for him, saying Stevenson was armed and drew first. No cigar!

Again, I do appreciate all your help as well as help from others out there. It may be that I can come up with enough information to make the book interesting.

My great great grandmother, Mary Lucinda Bundrant b.1857, was said to have been in love with one of the Hardin boys when she was 17 but her family would not allow them to marry. I have attached his photo. Does anyone know which Hardin boy is in the attached photo?

hi, check out this link:
http://www.geocities.com/heartland/hills/9283/index-IN.html The Crous(s)ores in Indiana & near the bottom of the link you will find a photo & info on JD Harfin's first wife...This is Ida Mae Croussore who was born in Kokomo, Indiana, in 1872. She is pictured with her niece (name unknown), her son John Wesley Davis (Hardin) (born 8 Feb 1889) and daughters Mattie Belle (born 9 Feb 1891) and Della Lillian Davis (Hardin) (born 14 Dec 1893), products of her first marriage.
Ida May was married three times. She married J. D. Hardin, the brother of notorious gunslinger John Wesley Hardin, in Lipscomb County, Texas on 24 October 1887, Manford Inskeep (with whom she had more children) in La Junta, Colorado, and then John Elmer Fanning. She divorced the first two. She and Fanning are buried in Springfield, Missouri.
Her death certificate lists her parents as William Croussore of Indiana and Mary Browning of Ohio. Any further information on these folks would be appreciated.
Photo compliments of Michele Yegge
Also if you go to this link http://boards.ancestry.myfamily.com/topics.crime.gunslingers... you will find post by Doug Hitchcock who is also doing this same research.

Thanks but yes, I already know what you are saying and much more. All I was trying to do was obtain permission to use that photo of Ida Mae but the poster has not had a valid email since 2001. I am communicating with Mr. Hitchcock who has some great photos and info on the Davis line.

I do thank you for your response!
