Hi Laura,
No, I didn't receive the info from you. Did you email it to me? Well, please try again. I'd like to stay in touch as well.

I don't know how we're connected to John Wesley Hardin. My grandmother always told me that he was my great grandmother's (Adlai Hardin Bass Hoyle) cousin, but I can't find any evidence of that.

Hi Laura

I have enjoyed reading about JWH. I am trying to see how and if I am related to JWH. My name is Thomas R Hardin. I have always been told we are related. I do have about 30 pages of information given to me by my father that was researched about 40 years ago regarding our family. It also traces our family ties to James Hardin who traveled with Daniel Boone through the cumberland gap. And touches on some adventure of my relitives with Mordicei Lincoln the nephew of Abraham Lincoln. Don't know how accurate research is but I am enjoying my reading.

Hi Laura,
Donald Wayne Bass is my grandmother's brother (my great uncle Wayne). I just saw him recently and we spoke a bit about John Wesley Hardin. I told him I couldn't find any info linking us to John Wesley, but he said that I wouldn't find any info. because of the times. Because JWH was a gunslinger, Wayne said he probably lied about his family to protect them. Interesting huh?

John Wesley Hardin was b. in 1853 and did not serve in the Civil War. He would have been about 9 years old when the conflict began.
That story is completely false.
He started his killings later on and his father never blamed him for his wrong doings. Wes was about 15 and attending school when his character first came to light. He stabbed a schoolmate with his knife but did not kill him.

I would be interested in studing your linage as I have researched the Hardin family and doing a book on Hardins with concentration on Jefferson Davis Hardin, killed in a gunfight 1901, Clairemont, Kent Co., TX.

Note: There are 2 books on John Wesley with the first being an autobio by John in 1896 (when family discovered his manuscript) and more recently by Leon Metz.

Thanks
N Brown

Hi
Could not get to your url as I don't know the password??

Jeff Hardin was killed 1901 in a gunfight with John Snowden, a relative by marriage. This took place in Clairemont, Kent Co., TX.

Jeff had his problems. In 1900 he got into trouble in Ft. Worth in a saloon and had to return in 1901 to face charges, fined and released (fight in saloon). Shot a man in Scurry Co., charged with murder. He was killed before going to trial.

Jeff's wfie Mary Jane Taylor Hardin remairred Robert C. Blount about 1908 or 1909 in Kent Co., TX.

The 1910 census shows her remarried to Mr. Blount. The 1920 census finds this family having moved to Maricopa, AZ. Many years later a son placed a medicine bottle at the grave of his father Jeff Hardin at Clairmont cemetery.

Seems to be a mystery as to the details of his death, the date, the reason, a murder in Scurry Co., and more. I have uncovered some of the details from archived news articles in support of a book I am working on about Jeff, Pink Higgins, and others.
