My family history has a similar story. My ancestors were French land owners in St. Dom. After the revolt they escaped to Cuba where my gggrandfather and his siblings were born. The family came first to North Carolina and then to Wisconsin and finally Illinois. I have no records from their time in St. Dom or Cuba. Only the story of their eventual arrival in the US. Looking for any information about the history of the French in the Caribean.

We didn't any confirmation of the day by the legal authorities (Baton Rouge register)

I can give other details, once i check the genealogy tree

Hope i'll get an answer, in order to fulfill mine, and have contact whith the american descendants of my ancestor...who may be know the real story

Sincerily / Gilles Nicolau

I need to add to my posting, for the benefit of those who are looking for these surnames in connection to the Miller/Muller (Mueller?) surname. As I stated, my Joseph Garder & wife Marie TC Raison (de la Geneste) were buried in Barboursville, VA (borders Ohio) at least one of their children married into a prominent MILLER family, there, perhaps two. I saw a posting re:Miller connecting them to the Rizens etal, also...Raison morphed to that, also: Raisin/Rizen/Reason(er) etc. Also Ridder/Knight are shown to mean the same thing, which brings me questions, also as I have Knights/McKnights also and of course theres the Knight-Ridder AP News service. Ridder is Dutch. So is my de Chaussenelle who's also married into my Raison group, prior to fleeing St Dom, or in Cuba, depending on the a/c read. Also there's Modeste/Modisette I have questions on, too. This is for the ones looking for the Millers in LA who are with this group...the French/Germans (Huguenots/Palatines) were/are joined at the hip, looks like, forever & to this day, at least.

I'm looking for information on Irma Angeline Champeaux, daughter of Albert Champeaux and Cecelia Dugas. She married Mike Brocoto and / or Bozzio Tauzin. Her daughter, Eunice Ann Tauzin was my grandmother.

I have located Irma Angeline in the 1900 and 1910 census records as a child in the household of Albert Champeaux. In 1910 (when my grandmother is supposed to have been 3 years old), she is listed as 22, single, and no children are listed for her. The family was living in St. Martin Parish, Jury Ward 1.

I know that my grandmother lived in a bayou with her parents, but I don't know which one. She left Louisiana around 1925 with the Reynaud family from New Iberia.

If anyone has any information on this family, please post here or email me at annie_610@hotmail.com.

Thanks!

Hello Mary,

My name is Dena Lee Montero Oldham, and Bailey Lee was my grandfather. I was surprised to come across this posting! I was just doing a search to find information about my family in Louisiana, and came across your post. My grandfather passed away in 1998. He married my grandmother, Margaret Irene Mullis Lee in 1940, and they had four children. My mother, Brenda Ann Lee Montero, and my uncles, John Edward Lee, Michael Bruce Lee and Mark Bailey Lee. I have quite a bit of information about his military history. He was stationed at Drew Field, not too far from the MacDill Air Force Base here in Tampa. Are you a family member? I would be interested to know what your interest with the Lee family is! Please feel free to email me. My grandfather's mother's name was Marie Madeline Mestapae (sp?). Rhymes with Nescafe, so I've been told! She went by the name Madeline. I see that this your inquiry was posted in September, 2003, so you may have had your questions answered already. Hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Dena Lee Montero Oldham

Hi,

I have an ancestor listed as Ysabel Bernard b.c. 1785. She's in the New Orleans Sacramental records in 1810 showing her original residence as Switzerland.
She's the wife of Emanuel Gossin also of Switzerland. They lived in PA before arriving in NOLA.
There's a Frank Bernard on Carondelet cor of Poydras in the 1822 City Directory.
Albert and Madeline Lee of Vermilion Parrish La.

Hello, My name is Mary and I looking for the LEE Family of Vermilion Parish La.
Albert was from England, arriving sometime around 1900 to 1920. What port he arrived at is unknown.
Madeline was from France, arriving the same time period. Thier son Bailey Lee was born in 1921 and lived his adult life in Fl.
Madeline's maiden name is a problem, I have only heard it and never seen it written down. MUSCOPATE is how it sounds. That doesn't look very French to me! But then again what do I know..lol. I tried looking in sites that list French surnames and came up empty.
I am hoping someone here will know this family or at the very least how to spell MUCOPATE correctly!
I did find a SS index listing for Albert and Madeline Lee. I assume they were married because of the ages and the places they lived.
Albert born 1893, died 1982.
Madeline born 1894 died 1975
They both have listed as localities:
Abbeville, Cow Island, Forked Island, and Meaux. These are all located in Vermilion Louisiana.
Thanks very much for taking the time to read this. Mary

Researching Marie-Amélie CASTAING born 1/23/1848 in Frechede, Haute Pyrennees, France. She emigrated with her husband Henri ROSSIGNOL and their daughters Celeste, Julie Lucie, Marie Simmone, Justine Marie and Elisa, to New Orleans in 1887.
In the 1900 LA census, it reads that the family resided in Orleans parish; Henri kept a saloon in the Distric and their son Henry_b. in the U.S._was a bartender. Daughters and Amelie were all living and at home.
It's possible that the children had married and moved out of parish, state, hence my posting here.
I'd appreciate very much hearing from a descendant or somebody who has info about the Rossignols.
Marta Elena

Found your question regarding information concerning Alexis Butaud. Hi Dad, this is what I found.. His full name was Alcibiade Alexis Butaud, he was born in 1803 in France, I'm still looking for where in France. He died 12/10/1884 in Charenton, St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. He had 13 children. Imagine that!! The first being our ancestor Philogene Butaud. What's interesting is that Aunt Marie was named after 2 of their children (they had two children named Marie). I'll keep searching
