Hi Kuitems,

Dismissal from the early congregations could have been for many reasons, among the the refusal to comply with the arranged marriages. It was a common custom for the board to select the wife and the submit it to the lot (containing yes no and sometimes blank, specially for missionaries. However dismissal was also on the grounds of breaking the congregations strict rules. This generally temporary as seems to be the case with your ancestor. The best place to find out what rally happened would be the congregations diary, where this matters were usually registered.
Hope this helps,
Joachim

Joachim

Would you have any information on a Benjamin HOCH's time in Ireland. He is believed to have been a teacher at Grace Hill, Antrim in about 1839. He was a son of Samuel HOCH, Missionary in the Carribean from 1805 to 1835. Benjamin was born in Jamaica in about 1821; was a teacher at Fulneck in about 1838, and at Ockbrook in about 1851.

It is believed that Fulneck had problems in placing the children of Samuel (Benjamin and Samuel Jr.)after they had finished their own schooling.

Thank you for any information you are able to pass on to me.

Derek
